The European Processor Initiative (EPI) gets together 23 partners from 10 European countries, with the aim to bring to the market a low power microprocessor.

The EPI SGA1 project will be the first phase of the European Processor Initiative FPA, whose aim is to design and implement a roadmap for a new family of low-power European processors for extreme scale computing, high-performance Big-Data and a range of emerging applications. 

 

Mission

  • European independance in High Performance Computing Processor Technologies.
  • EU Exascale machine based on EU processor by 2023.
  • Based on solid, long-term economic model, Go beyond the HPC market.
  • Address the needs of European Industry (Car manufacturing market).

Vision

  • High Performance Computing needs for Exascale machine beyond 2022.
  • Connected mobility & Autonomous Driving computing needs beyond 2023.
  • Low power CPU needs for Servers and Cloud .
  • Other markets under exploration (Server, Cloud).

Impact

  • Strengthening the comptetiveness and leadership of European industry and science.
  • European microprocessor technology with drastically better performance/power ratios.
  • Tackling important segments of broader and/or emerging HPC and Big-Data markets.
